Be happy with what you have…
21/03/2011 by Christophe.
It’s true that it’s all too easy to compare what you have with what someone else has. And it’s true that in these situations it’s hard to see what you have got because you’re always looking at what you haven’t got…
Some people use the analogy of the glass half empty or half full. Are you aware that the glass is half empty of half full?
Do you often notice when someone has something, and you haven’t?
How does it affect you? How do you feel about it?
When we spend so much time worrying about and focusing on what we haven’t got, our life can become full of wishes, frustrations, jealousy, sadness and maybe even anger. And in this state of mind, we ignore and forget the side of our life that is full of joy, happiness, warmth and reward.
But as soon as we stop looking at others and simply enjoy what we already have, we start to feel happier, notice the beautiful things and people around us and are more at peace with who we are.
And to demonstrate how much our attitude towards who we are can be changed, I invite you to watch this truly amazing person…

A testimonial - 4 Weeks On -
08/03/2011 by Christophe.
‘It’s been four weeks since I took part in One Step Further’s NLP Diploma course and it’s only now, with a bit of distance from the learning, that I’m beginning to realise just how big the impact of the week has been in my life.
For me, the week was quite an emotional one. The content of the course means that you are sometimes forced to look at yourself in a different way, and that can be quite an eye-opener. I certainly learnt a lot about myself!
The physical exercises we did were also hugely rewarding for me – if I’m perfectly honest, I wasn’t particularly looking forward to either the walk or the sailing trip. Both were a stretch for me – I’m not a particularly physically active person, and I get motion sickness, so I feared that neither were going to end well! In fact, the sense of achievement I felt after doing both of the activities meant that they were probably two of the highlights of the week for me.
Here are a few of the others:
- Understanding that everyone is different. We all like things done in certain ways – whether it be the way we plan our weekends, or how good we are at time keeping, there’s a reason for it. And once you start to understand that, it improves the relationships you have with people enormously.
- Being aware of your own beliefs. I realised some things about myself and my beliefs that I hadn’t been aware of before, and that I didn’t particularly like all that much. But, once I was aware of them, I was able to start making changes to those beliefs to make them sit better with the person that I want to be.
- My little pot of happiness. One of my favourite exercises actually came towards the end of the week and looked at how to access memories that can change the way we feel. Thanks to that session, I now have a Little Pot of Happiness that I carry around with me and can dip in to whenever I feel the need.
I still don’t think that I’ve fully understood the impact of the course, but I’m definitely still learning from it – even a month later!
